Ayurveda

Ayurveda means the Science of Life.  This wonderful science is more than 5,000 years old and helps individuals to improve their lives primarily through diet and lifestyle.  You could call Ayurveda designer health care because it’s based on individual needs instead of handing out pharmaceuticals to fix a symptom.

Ayurveda is interesting because it goes to the root of the cause when there’s an illness.  Paying attention to even the minute details and symptoms assists in finding the right tools to work with towards bringing the body back in balance.

Ayurveda works by figuring out your individual body type and then designing a diet and lifestyle that supports the individual person.  If you’ve ever wondered why a particular food is labeled as a “Superfood” but your body can’t tolerate that “Superfood”, that’s because you’re unique!

There are three main body types, Vata, Pitta and Kapha.  Each one of us has a unique combination of these body types called doshas, but there are usually two that are a more dominant.  For some there is one dominant dosha and for a few, all three dosas are dominant!

Here’s a brief description of the doshas:

  1. Vata – this type of person is usually thin most of their lives.  They tend to be creative and have bubbly personalities.
  2. Pitta – this person is usually of average build, not too big and not to small.  They are the organized ones.  They like to take the bull by the horns and take charge.
  3. Kapha – the more laid back personality along with the larger bone structure may make you think this type of person is lazy, but they are usually thinking about how to respond for the good of people.  The best bosses are Kaphas!
